The Ruin Venue – A Joshua Tree Wedding

Mandy and Ace were an absolute joy to work with, two incredibly positive, grounded people. I had the pleasure of working closely with them not only to photograph their wedding, but also to help style elements of their event and wardrobe. To this day, we’ve stayed close, and in just a few months – I’ll be photographing the arrival of their baby, which feels incredibly special.

Their wedding took place at the iconic Ruin Venue in Joshua Tree, one of the most unique and sought-after Joshua Tree wedding venues just outside of Palm Springs. The entire day was forecasted to be perfect, but just before the ceremony, the sky shifted and a rare desert storm rolled in.

With no contingency plan in place, because truly, who expects rain in Joshua Tree, guests wrapped themselves in blankets during cocktail hour and embraced the moment. Despite the unexpected weather, every single person remained joyful and present. It was a true reflection of the kind of community Mandy and Ace have built around them.

As the rain fell, guests danced to “Let the Rain Fall Down,” and just as quickly as it arrived, the storm passed. The sun came back out, the reception opened, and the evening continued seamlessly. It felt symbolic, almost like a quiet reflection of how Mandy and Ace will move through life together, with positivity, ease, and resilience.

Mandy and Ace took a hands-on approach to many of their wedding details. While DIY isn’t something I always recommend, they executed it beautifully. The overall design felt effortless and intentional. Despite a wedding budget over $100K, the day felt warm and personal, like an intimate dinner party surrounded by close friends.

Why Couples Love Joshua Tree Wedding Venues

For couples searching for Palm Springs wedding venues but wanting something more unique, Joshua Tree offers a completely different experience. Venues like Ruin provide an artistic, open-air setting that feels both elevated and relaxed. The venue itself cost 15k and you do need to bring practically everything in. Be sure to hire a local Planner!

The desert landscape, the light, and the sense of space create an atmosphere that allows weddings to feel less performative and more intentional. It’s perfect for couples like Mandy and Ace, who care deeply about connection, experience, and creating something that truly reflects them. Everyone under the desert stars together.
