This La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club wedding felt like stepping straight back into summer, even though it took place in October. Jess and Eric envisioned a day that was lighthearted, playful, and deeply personal, and every detail reflected their easygoing, kind approach to celebration.

The day unfolded with a picnic-inspired theme, brought to life through thoughtful design choices that felt joyful without being overly styled. Cocktail hour featured colorful umbrellas scattered across the lawn, oversized lawn games like jumbo Jenga, and a relaxed energy that invited guests to linger. Striped linen dining chairs added a graphic, summery touch, while mini picnic baskets doubled as table number displays, reinforcing the theme in a way that felt charming and intentional.

Native Poppy’s floral and tabletop design added a layer of whimsy that made each table feel like its own small moment. Instead of traditional table numbers, guests were seated at themed tables like Apple, Butter, and Grape, with tiny sculptural ants carrying away the item that inspired each table. It was playful, unexpected, and perfectly aligned with the couple’s vision.

The ceremony took place right on the beach, with the ocean stretching out behind Jess and Eric as they exchanged vows. Though La Jolla’s coastline is always lively, the ceremony felt surprisingly private. Positioned at the far end of the beach, the setting allowed for an intimate moment, and passersby were respectful enough to stay out of frame. Any unavoidable interruptions were easily removed in post-production, leaving the ceremony images serene and uninterrupted.

As the sun dipped lower, the celebration shifted seamlessly into the evening. Dart Collective kept the energy high, mixing tropical deep house that kept the dance floor full well into the night. In one of the most memorable moments of the evening, a cannoli cart made its way through the crowd, feeding guests sweets right on the dance floor. It was joyful, a little indulgent, and perfectly on-brand for a wedding that never took itself too seriously.

This San Diego coastal wedding was a reminder that when a couple leans into who they are and trusts their creative team, the result is a day that feels effortless, meaningful, and full of life.
